Always work

Our Father
…..Your Kingdom come…..
Matthew 6:6-10

God’s Child is Allowed to Say: Our Father
Your Kingdom: that is the Kingdom of the Father.
It is His Kingly and Fatherly reign in individuals, families and nations in heaven and on earth.
It comes through Christ, now and in the future, as showers from above; people do not bring it forth, but God Himself.

In the mouth of Jesus the word “Father” is also gospel, the glad tidings that He brought: Forgiveness of sins and eternal life to the honour of God.
The first three petitions of the Lord’s Prayer speak of the things that God wants.
Through this the prayer is purified from the beginning from self-will and selfishness.

Through the word ‘our’, that is: ‘our Father’, our prayer broadens out from our own needs to the whole congregation of Christ which extends over the whole earth.
The prayer ‘in secret’ therefore becomes a prayer of worldwide significance. The danger of pious selfishness is therefore disposed of.
Only a child of God can say ‘Father’.

To: God’s Kingdom
Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33).
The only purpose of the seeking of God’s Kingdom is that He will be honoured, trusted and obeyed in the whole world.
In our prayer therefore we must implore that all people may become citizens of this Kingdom, which He founded through Christ. And that the gospel may be preached to all nations.
We pray that the reality becomes: “The kingdoms of this world have become the Kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever” (Revelation 11:15).
So that every king, every tongue, people and nation will serve Christ (Psalm 72:11).
We pray that His dominion will expand and that the Christian religion will be confessed everywhere. That the Christian faith shows in outward confession, also shows in strength and brings obedience in the hearts of all people

Receive: Spiritual Gladness
The Kingdom of God consists of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17b).

The Kingdom of the Father is not separate from His righteousness, but is one with it. God’s righteousness is the right life as the Father wills and gives.

Peace is the reassurance in our heart and conscience through the assurance that we, and our actions, are, through faith, pleasing before God. We shall be saved through God’s Son because we are reconciled (Romans 5:10).

Peace is expressed in outward peace and unity among the brothers and sisters.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
May they prosper who love You.
Peace be within your walls,
Prosperity within your palaces.
(Psalm 122:6,7)

Gladness is the spiritual joy in the heart that arises from the firm hope of salvation which is evidenced by the prosperity of the congregation that flourishes in peace.

All this is the work of the Holy Spirit. It is a spiritual gladness, not a worldly gladness.

God’s Kingdom Comes
…..Your Kingdom come…..
This is not a wish that is expressed here.
We do not wish God the coming of His Kingdom.
We are not just standing there and waiting for it, as distant spectators.
We ourselves are involved with it.

We must never pray this petition passively, must never pray idly.
We may only pray this petition if we ourselves want to be active in the realisation of what we are asking of God.
This petition becomes a curse upon our lips if we, with the given strength and talents, are not fellow workers of God In the work of the expansion of His Kingdom.
For if we pray to God for the coming of His Kingdom, we may not, after our prayer, do as though we stand idle on the sideline. As if God shall do this without us.

We shall implore from our heart, the implementation of the Kingly dominion of God and the unconditional fulfilment of the divine will, both with myself and the congregation, in the normal daily life: Father, lead Your Kingly dominion over here, help me, so that You may reign more and more as King and Lord with us, and also with me.

By praying this petition, we ourselves are working with that coming, we actively participate in that coming.

God Works through His Church
Only then, when we fully commit ourselves, may we pray: Your Kingdom come.

God will and shall expand His Kingdom and make it come.
That is why He wants us to go to the world with His Word.
We must do that with every power: with the power of prayer, with the power of our love, with the power of all our gifts and talents.

He does this, but through His church.

Our Father

…..Your Kingdom come…..
